Things slow down in the winter when you live in climate with sub-zero temperatures. So this blog was frozen just like the lakes around here. But now the rivers and lakes have thawed, and brave cyclists have been on the road for a few weeks. And in a few weeks, there will even be brave triathletes swimming in frigid open water.
Unlike the lakes, I haven't been frozen solid all winter. No serious competition, but I was out there enjoying winter on skis and skates. I participated as tandem team, in the craziest but intensely fun winter triathlete invented, Le Pentathlon des Neiges de Quebec. I have participated in this event for the last there years, and it's always guaranteed fun. Highly recommended.
For this season, I don't have any particular goals, but I'll be participating in various running, cycling, duathlon/triathlon events. Nothing too serious - all for fun.
I have been active as an assistant coach with the Parc Avenue YMCA triathlon team (www.ytri.ca), and I have promised to jump in the water and do a few triathlons. Hopefully I won't need the kayakers too often. I you live in Montreal, and want to join a fun group of people who don't take themselves seriously, check it out.
I also have changed cycling team - it's a new team called Road II Rock (www.road2rockracing.com) . We're a bunch of friends who train and race together in the Master A (30-40) category mostly in Quebec.
Speaking of categories, I made the switch to the 40+ group, but I'll be doing must of the cycling races in the Master A.
I closed off my 3rd decade, and started the 2009 season at the Course et Marche Populaire Lasalle 10km run, on a hang over (yes, and I think I'm starting a bad habit). I was happy with a 36 minute 10km, with some left over fitness from the ski season, but hats off the my friend Louis Paré, who with a baby stroller, came in flying at 40 minutes.
Enough for now, 3, 2, 1, 2009 here we come...
